Amber Fogs

Just noticed about an inch of water inside my fog lamp. Cracked glass. Are these obtainable for something less than the 230 or so at fastlane? This a common E-Bay part? I'm goint to pull the lamps today and epoxy the crack for now. "For Now" will probably turn into July 2010 :-)

For a 123, I think it's a common eBay part. I had mismatched fog lights (one clear, one amber) and I did a search, and remember finding quite a few...I picked one amber and one clear to look at, and wound up winning the clear at somewhere less than $20 IIRC.

I actually still have the amber fog that I replaced with the "new" clear fog. I'm not sure if I want to hold on to it and get a second amber fog to act as a backup set...

Junkyard.

fortunately, the boneyard guys around here haven't figured out that the retail on those amber fogs is over $200.

The stuff I ususally buy looks like trash to them so I only wind up paying $25-50 for a box of cables, controls, door latches and, you guessed it, fog light assemblies.

Eventually, all my 123s will have unchipped and matching amber fog lamps and headlight doors that haven't been smacked multiple times by road gravel.

Maybe alittle off-topic. I've had good luck in the past tipping a light to get as much of the water out of it, then putting it in the oven and boiling the remainder out of the assembly. Please don't use this advice if you're worried about the part, if it breaks I'll feel awful. (I've never broken one doing it). Just a thought.

I am definately frugal. I believe if I looked long enough, I could find the first dollar I ever earned. It's around here somewhere.

Even if you could get the new lense at a lower price you probably wouldn't want it as the two lenses would no longer match. My 84 had one original light, and one newer darker light. I ended up buying a used one and swapping the newer one out so they at least match. Unfortunately it appears to be cracked from a rock, however it isn't leaking water. Maybe I'll just buy two new clear corners for it, if they look ok with the euros.

Hi 300SDL,

Yep, I'm still interested. Attempted to buy a full set of lamps on e-bay but seller closed early. Thing has a nice crack fully across the lens. Thanks.
