Question What engine is this?

Hello!

After saving the cutaway drawings that coachgeo posted in another thread, I came across this picture among my other pics. It's titled "OM616 cutaway", but looking at it, it doesn't look like a 616...or even a 617. In fact, unless I'm counting wrong, it looks like a 6 cylinder.

Given the chain-driven overhead cam, I assume it's an M-B engine, although at this point I'm not even sure if it's a diesel or a g@$$er...anyone have any ideas?

Just wondering, thanks

hmmmmm I think its labled wrong. Could it be the 6cyl diesel that is in one of the diesel Unimogs?

Most the older Mogs w/ 6cyl were diesel.

I don't see plugs or prechambers. I guess they're on the other side. The complex air cleaner assembly suggests to me that it has carbs ergo gasser. Could be an M127.

That makes sense...I think that someone, somewhere (either on here or on a personal website) had the picture up, stating that it was a 616. I should have noticed the extra 2 cylinders in a heartbeat; maybe I was half-asleep when I saw it...?

Another thought, but unlikely...George, were the 'Mog diesels IDI's or direct-injected?

I'm confused, Below is the list of cute away engines I have posted over at Pirated. Did you find the pic your referenciing on Pirate. There is no 616 engine listed?

Cutaways for OM 110s 123s and 617s
M110
M110A
M123
M123A
OM617A
OM617AA (think this is just a larger pic than 617A thats all)

ohhhhhhh...... Pic is not from Pirate OK.... Confused mode turned off.

I figure the Mog engines became IDI about same time MB started making IDI's

I think this is a gasser. The uncut last two cylinders look to have spark plugs drawn into the block

If its a 'Mog Diesel it is probably the 5.7 liter OM352 6 cyl Diesel.

Right. Your thread inspired it (in fact, I had forgotten that I had it), but I've had this picture for quite a while...according to when it was last modified, I got it on May 5th of this year.

Also, I hadn't noticed the spark plugs...I think you're right, now that those have been pointed out.

Also looks like gear driven distributor drive next to #1 cylinder, above the oil pump... probably a gasser from the 1960's equipped with dual Zenith carbs. Counting the number of main crankshaft bearings would also provide a clue.
