Trans modulator disconnect?

Is there any harm in just disconnecting the modulator to firm up shifts (other than harsh shifts)? I've tried searching and couldn't find an answer. I already tried it and it shifts firmly but it isn't neck breaking (I had a flare sometimes between shifts). Just wondering if it's bad for the transmission to do this? I know it probably isn't great for the rear end but I'm not worried about that.

As a temporary measure, probably not.

But, every shift both up and down will be harsh and unpleasant, not mention the additional shock loading on driveline components.

You may only need to adjust the shift control pressure by tightening the Bowden cable. Do a search on transmission adjustment, flare, modulator and bowden, plenty has been written about it in here.

Or, you can go here for additional information:

Actually it still doesn't shift that hard. It shifts like I would think it should now, you can feel when it shifts but it still isn't unpleasant.... hope that doesn't mean that the trans is shot. Before it would shift like this most of the time but sometimes it would just ease into a shift which is what I assume most people call a flare.

Leaving the modulator unhooked will ruin the flex disks, differential, center bearing, and diff mounts pretty fast, and will bang so hard you will think something is loose!

Leave it alone.
