Another 300SD goes bye bye...
Well after my car was finally running in tip top shape, R-12 in the ac system I got involved in an accident yesterday afternoon and it is totaled.
Got caught by the drivers side front pillar and fender area at about 50 MPH. The kid was fortunate to walk away in his '03 Mazda. Do you guys think it would be wise to remove the engine and tranny(185,000 miles on both) and keep around in the event another pops up? Or maybe try and sell them on ebay. 3 Doors, trunk lid, as well as front and rear light assemblies are fine, maybe I could sell those as well. I have plenty of storage space so that wouldn't be a problem. I was going to give this car to my kid and buy Turbodiesels 1987 300SDL for myself. I made a deal with him yesterday for the car, only now I will still be looking for one for my kid.(he can wait) Maybe I could try and find something needing and engine or tranny for him. Sorry for the long post. I know you guys could feel my pain in seeing a hell of a car get sent out to pasture. At least I'm still around to worry about another car.

Glad you're OK. That's why we buy MBZ's for our family members.

Man, that sucks the big one!
I keep holding my breath everytime I drive mine hoping someone doesn't peg it too.Yeah, if you have the time to mess with it, try parting it out over in the parts forum. Seems to be a popular car that people are always looking for parts for. Doubt the local auto wreckers will give you anything much for it, and the insurance company sure as heck won't.

Man, I hate to hear this kind of stuff
. Sorry for your loss.I would suggest trying to find something that you can use parts from the SD and keep it in "storage". If you can sell some of the parts on ebay that is fine. I would not let that engine/tranny get away without any less than at least $1k.
