Hood star installation? How do you unload it?

I just got my new hood star from Adsit. I received it two days I might add. However, when I pulled it out of the box, it was pre-loaded or something similar. When I went to plug it into the hole, and I was looking from the underside, it did something like unload itself, maybe turning. Now, it won't go in the hole. What did I do? I can't get it to reload.

The newer ones are held in place by the outer strap. It turns 90 degrees to either sit on a ledge on the base (installation position) or up agains the surround (installed).

Get a pair of heavy pliers and pull the outer sheetmetal part down, then turn to put the plastic "feet" up on the ledges. I don't remeber which way, right I think. You will have to pull very hard, and keep your fingers clear -- don't ask why I know they pinch HARD of the pliers slip off.

Otherwise, to remove the star, pull down on the base and turn left (or right, I'm dyslexic) to unlatch, pull out, insert new star, pull base down and turn left to latch it.

Nicer than the old slide lock.

For those with the old spring locks... be careful ... I slit my finger putting the last one on... the spring was really sharp on the edge...

So, leatherman, which is worse -- getting cut or having the da..d thing clamped down on a bit of flesh with no way to get it loose but to pull the skin off? Couldn't hold onto the blasted thing well enough to pull the spring back down.....
