Idler arm..300SDL...
How difficult is it to change the idler arm bushings on a 1987 300SDSL?
I realize the answer is relative to my mechanical experience, which is above average. I did body work for 5 years. I just have never gotten into steering components. I purchased Turbodiesels 300SDL(yes, the one with 300,000 miles) and I plan to pick it up Friday, weather permitting. John claims it shakes a bit at higher speeds and that the idler arm needs to be replaced. I know their is a idler arm bushing replacement kit. Just need to know how difficult it may be. Suggestions? I *think* it's about as easy as it gets since there's one downpipe and it's not in the way. I know the SD is easy and the SE is a PITA. Ended up putting the bolt from the bottom in the SE. The precats make it impossible to reach the exhaust flange bolts. Nothing of the sort on the SDL.

Keep me posted
Plantman,
I've got the shakes in my SDL at about 70MPH. Let me know how you make out and if the bushings solve your problem. Have you also checked the tires and wheels for problems. Others here claim that balancing is usually the problem. I've already eliminated those as possibilities and I'm now looking into steering/suspension problems. I also replaced my steering damper - no change.
