Passenger seat problem with w 210

This one scares me: when I attempt to move the seatback backwards, it goes forward. When I attempt to move the seatback forwards, it goes backwards. Anybody experienced this? It doesn't sound like the motor is binding or anything--it will only go forwards though. To get the seatback out of the dash, I have to hit a pre-programmed seat position button.

Not sure of this, but when my car was in for service the tech mentioned my 1996 210 E300D had a fault code in the computer for the seats. And I do remember my drivers seat behaved erratically. Not sure if he rest it or not (if you can even do that), but it works fine now. I THINK that he said that the memory requires a reset AND I THINK I understood from someone that you can achieve that by disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes. Again, I believe this with no proof. - Garrett
