Fuel return hose
This afternoon, I discovered that the oddly shaped hose which connects the engine of my 300D to the return line has developed a leak.
Luckily the leak was directed downward rather than towards the turbo. I have since replaced it with the proper part, thanks to my neighbor's inventory of MB parts, but I'm curious -- why is this hose shaped as it is? Could I have used a simple straight piece of hose instead? Phil '85 300D '84 Euro 300D |

I think the shape has to do with diffusing the pulses of fuel returning to the tank. Folks who've replaced the 'cigar' hose with regular hose claim they've heard noises.
How can the return line in a W123 300D leak on the turbo? Even if it does, I don't think there's a risk of fire. But don't go trying now ![]() Sixto 95 S420 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |
