Lamp Out Warning
A couple of weeks ago, I was notified that one of my headlamps was out by the system. I promptly replaced the bulb, which was easily identified upon a cursory inspection.
Two weeks pass, and I am getting another lamp out warning. I have checked every d*** light on the car, and can find nothing obviously out. I checked the connection on the lamp I replaced, and it is tight? Any suggestions? Is there some light I may not know about, lurking under a seat or something

Hi Narwhal
Pay attention to "when" the indicator is coming on. Also does the dash display tell you which lamp it is? I assume not. If it comes on after you turn on the parking lights (first click on the light switch to the right), then possibly it is one of the license plate lights, there are 2 of them, you need to stoop over and look up at the license plate lights to see if they work. If the warning comes on when stepping on the brakes it is probably one of your brake lights, remember there is one in the center of the rear window also, although your 99 may have the LED assembly instead of a single bulb. Also be sure to check the small halogen front parking light bulbs, the inner "small" oval clear lights. Another common failure is the amber bulbs in the side of the front bumper. Thanks Gilly. I am going to print your response, and check it out tonight. The light comes on when I hit the first click to the right.

Next time you turn on the lights and the indicator light comes on try turning the lights on and off several times with the car running and see if that corrects the problem it may be your switch is faulty.

Check your brake lights. If the bulb goes out on the brake light near the rear window, that will cause the dash light to illuminate when the key is in the "on" position. Tom '82 SD '86 SDL |

I hate to disagree with you , but the lamp circuits on a 210 chassis aren't "actively" monitored. The lamp has to be activated for the circuit to be tested. Gilly |

narwhal, the system will also catch a bulb that is on its way out, but not burnt yet. I went through that with a brake light bulb. When I finally believed the system and started checking bulbs, I found one discolored and just barely hanging on.

Thanks again for all the replies, guys. I have actually been in trial for 3 days, so I haven't tried any of the suggestions yet, but if I find out what the culprit is, I will let everyone know.

Doh!!
It was the yellow light on the driver side bumper. To my defense, when I was checking all of the lights, there was a streetlight on the opposite side of this light and it looked lit....you guys buy that? On the other hand, I have a pretty thorough knowledge of all of the lights on this rig now! Thanks again, fellas.
