I don't understand this question.

mplafleur 09-15-2003 02:18 PM

I think he wants the weight of both a turbo and non-turbo motors.

rickg 09-15-2003 02:47 PM

Heavy, and heavier!:D

I did read somewhere what they weigh, but can't remember now where I saw it. I'll try to find it.

The turbocharged engine is just a little heavier because it has ten pounds of boost.

But is that boost additive, or dimunitive? :D

Heavier...it's positive pressure. The NA engines are lighter because the manifold has a vacuum in it...less air = less weight.

Much tanks.

Cource I dont know if that article takes into account for the boost pressure increase and the acceleration forces on the turbo engines weight:confused: :D :D :p

drat

the 617 is not listed at the above mentioned site. The 615 is though.

is the 617 heavier then the 615?

DslBnz 09-15-2003 10:12 PM

I don't know about the 617, but the engine after it, the turbocharged OM603 was 600 something pounds with an aluminum head. The 617 has a cast iron head, but it's a five-cylinder. Hmmm.., I know it's heavy!:D

The OM615 was the non-turbo charged maybe 200D's of the 1960'S? Just a stab in the dark!

Anyway, I think they're the lightest OHC cast iron MB diesel. The OM617 is much bigger than the OM615, so it weighs quite a bit more.

Gurkha 09-16-2003 12:09 AM

The OM 616 turbo in my Gurkha weighs around 314 killograms. Funnily, the HINO 4009cc diesel weighs around the same.

FYI:

MBUSA called me back. Weight of an OM603 is 235 kg, ~517 lbs.

That's great to know, thanks.

Is that with the turbo? Or is that without turbo? The turbo would put it closer to 600 lbs.

I only went by what sombody was advertising on ebay. A 300D turbo engine that weighed about 600 lbs.

Dear coachgeo:

I hope you will be more careful with spelling error checking in your next message. Your original message consists of only several words and there are already 3 conspicuous spelling errors. Clear questions will be replied with better answers.

Please don't get offended :-)

Best regards,

Eric
