82 240d Safe Jacking Points?

could anyone tell me where the safe jacking points on the car are? I use a big 3 ton floor jack. Attach pics if you can. Thanks in advance!

For the front, I put the jack under the engine brace. be careful not to damage the oil pan. For the rear, just put it under the differential. I put a small piece of wood in the jack lifting plate to prevent scratching the parts.

Hope this helps.

I disagree with Lars' advice on where to place the jack...

If you need to jack up the car, STAY AWAY FROM THE POWERTRAIN PARTS...i.e engine, tranny, differential...

There are 4 (count em 4) little round holes by each wheel which is where the stock jack goes into, and those are an excellent place to put a floor jack, directly under them... and then jack up the corner of the car and put a jack stand under it.

According to the FSM for the 123 chassis, the front crossmember and the differential are both acceptable jack points.

One problem with only using the side jack points is that occasionally the leg of the jack will interfere with where you wnat to locate the jackstand or, you need access to the place on the chassis (ie: the subfame bushing) where the jackstand would be located.

the diff is in too 'deep' for the jack to reach. i've been using the area right below the 'holes' on the side. thanks for the input.--rs
