81SD Seat Switch Repair

I noticed several of the electic seat positioning settings were operating intermittantly on the SD. Then this last week it got stuck in a rather awkward position and wouldn't move out of it.
I knew the cost of a new switch, and did not want to try a used, so I elected to try to disassemble the twenty two year old switch and see if some cleaning might do it. same as the window switches seem to need.
I removed it and put i on the workbench and spread out a nice clean paper surface. Glad I did. When I pried the thing apart about 12 small steel balls and springs all tumbled out. So I thought well, nice try. Now get the new part.
I stayed with it though, and sorted out all the parts. Uses same system as the MB window switches. The springs go on either side of the rocker, and the balls sit on either end, and are held in place by the cover. I cleaned it all up with some electical contact cleaner and lightly scraped the burned stuff away from the contact points.
To get the balls to hold in place I dabbed a bit of some bulb grease I had around. That held them there so the whole mess could be reassembled.
Took me three tries to get all the parts back in the right place, the small metal rocker arms kept jumping out of place. Then at last I reinstalled the switch and it worked.
Had to bend those copper colored rocker arms down just slightly and cleaned all the contact points. Several had black burns showing. Now the seat moves up, down, back and forward, and the seat back moves front to back nicely.
Much more comfortable. Since I am moving to a new job within the same company and will start a 60 mile commute this week, comfort is now very important to me.
