shifting

82 300SD, 240 K. It goes into drive with no problem but, when it shifts it takes a second or two and the RPM's jump several hundred. I know there is an adjustment on the driver's side of trans and one on top of the air cleaner but which one is it and which way to turn it? Trans is full and filter and fluid changed about 5 K ago. Trans pump was replaced 10 K ago. Thank you for the help. Nick
