Emergency vacuum line repair
I was poking around under the hood of my 87 SDL last night and managed to break the brittle vacuum line that runs between the intake and the crossover valve. Since it was about 10:30 and I needed the car today, I had to find an emergency repair. Since my wife is a horse vet, I grabbed some needles from her truck and found a 14 gauge needle worked perfect for an emergency splice. Of course I am going to replace the line (probably most of the rest as well) with the correct tubing this weekend, but I thought I would pass this tip on for emergency late night-type repairs.

Yes, replace EVERY single vacuum line and rubber fitting under the hood. Most of the plastic lines will snap like twigs, and many rubber vacuum fittings (particularly those that are exposed to more heat) will be crusty and brittle.

where
i too would like to replace all the rubber elbow and vacuum fittings. where do you get them? i dread going to the dealer.

The dealer is *unfortunately* an okay source for these things - the fittings themselves run a buck or two each. You can call Phil at Partsshop too, he'd be more than glad to help you out.
Another option is to go to your local auto parts store and buy some black rubber hose. They should also have most of the typical vacuum "T" and "Y" fittings available.
