Your opinions on this auction

While parousing eBay earlier I found this auction. Granted I am not in the market for a MB this pricey but check it out. Ebay Auction

Yea.. I thought it was kinda suspicious that it is a '95 with a '91 steering wheel, no passenger airbag, and the fact that the date of build has been removed from the doorjamb label. I carfaxed the car and it is a '91. I emailed the seller and am waiting for this response.. but I am wondering whether we have an unscrupulous dealer or someone that didn't do their research.
What do you all think?
(Ps.. pretty good sleuth work for a MB diesel rookie, eh?)

I tend to agree that this is an interesting car for sale... If you look at the digits in the given VIN code, it does appear to be a 1991 300D. The 10th digit is the giveaway on this one since it is an "M". If it were a 1995, you would definitely see an E300 Diesel on the trunk instead of a 300D 2.5Turbo. I bet the seller has the year listed incorrectly. Either way, I'd be worried about the "low" miles on this one.

That is definately not a 1995 because it has the older style hood, lights, and mouldings.

Ugh, I love how the year of manufacture was scratched off the VIN label. To add to that, "1995" was pathetically engraved in it's place...

Then again, maybe the seller got confused - it looks like it could read "1991" too. Depends on how you squint at it.

Best way to check the situation is to have a friend that works for insurance run that VIN through and see what they come up with. I just had a friend run a VIN on another supposedly sweet turbo diesel on Ebay and it came back with one issue it had been through before.... Get to know someone in auto insurance

I already ran the VIN on it through carfax.. err the free lemon check carfax thing, and it comes up as a '91. Didn't the E class get the W140 style steering wheel starting in '92?
Still no reply from the seller.. if they give me a line of bull, I am going to call them on it.. no sense in watching someone who doesn't know/doesn't research thoroughly get screwed over by an unscrupulous seller.
Oh yay... my 100th post!
