outside temp on dash display 300 sdl

hello folks, I'm a newbe so if i start to stutter that's why. I just bought a 300 sdl in beautiful cond. It only has 136k with all maint. records.Yes the trap oxidizer has already been updated by the dealer. There are a few minor problems with it. The outside temp. display on the dash is inop. How do I trouble shoot it? Is it a lcd display? I noticed a thermostat that is lased through the front grill.I asume its for the temp display. It has a mounting tab but where is it suppose to mount? Another problem is the shock that dampens the fan belt tensioner is bad. Where can i get this part. I know, call me crazy but I bought the car even with these major problems.
