Going to look at 85 300SD
I am going to look at at a 1985 300 SD this week, it is a 5 cylinder Diesel. It is suppose to be in really good shape with 120K original miles. Is the engine the same horsepower as my 83 300D?? Is this car any faster on the takeoff, same gear ratio?? and if I get this car, I will sell the 300D here first..

The 85 300SD has higher HP than the 81-83 300SDs and 82-83 300DTs. 81-83 SDs had 123HP, as the 82-83 300DTs did, I think 84-85 300SDs and 300DTs had 125 HP. They also have different gear ratios, so you get lower RPMs high speeds compared to older 300SDs and 300DTs. I don't know if the takeoff speed or top speed is any higher though. Someone correct me if my data is flawed.

Hey thanks!
Thanks for they reply, I like my ol 83 (5cy) it is easy to work on and great MPG, but it is slow on the takeoff, and I would like more room..my wife says she does not want another black car, too hot here in the south..
