ball bearing in rear dirver side door
I opened the back door the other day to put the little one in.
Out popped a ball bearing about 3/4 " in diameter. I don't know where it came from, but the door does not operate smoothly. any suggestions would be appreciated. This is out of a 85 300dt, my wife's little darling.

That's the ball from the check strap. Cake to replace (the whole assy that is) and fairly cheap. $40 for TWO new check straps from **************.
My question is, how in the h**l could that size ball come "popping out" of the door? Have some rust problems you're not telling us about, hmmm?????

If the spring in the check strap has been chewed up, then the ball can pop out.
You can't fix the checkstrap, just buy a new one. Just bolt one side in place, then put the other side in and it will work with no problem. Do NOT try to pull the thing open before installing it to one side of the car or the other. I'd rather not say how I know this. They seem to poop out from too much moisture and a lack of lube. The spring rusts and then comes apart or gets squooshed under the bearing, then the bearing pops out. They can be lubed on the car with a spray can of lithium grease.
