Connecticut Emissions experience...

My emissions experience was sooo enjoyable.

Here is the process they use when you go in.
- They check your registration
- They try to find your car in the DMV database
- The connect an ODB plug into the connector underneath your dash
- They shut it off
- They let the glow light go off, all off this following the directions, or so it appeared on the computer screen
- They start it up and let it run for 10 seconds
- And, Viola ... You're DONE!

So it was a waste of 15 minutes
If you don't have a CEL, then there is nothin there to check

They check to make sure that the "readings" are "within" the limits. If they weren't then you would have a CEL.

F*^%@(! Rowland Administration. Trying to squeeze every dollar out of us he can.

In SW Washington they check diesel emissions. They check for something called opacity %. I still don't understand what that is all about but the state takes 15 of my hard earned $$ for that nonsense. We don't even have any visible smog here ever. I can't understand why a state like California doesn't check diesel emissions and a podunk state like Washington does.

Emissions

California HAS opacity inspections for trucks and the fines are nasty. Don't ask me how I know. They put these eyeballs up along side the exhaust stack and then have you tramp the footfeed to the floor for 5 seconds. If you don't tramp it quick enough to suit them, they make you do it again. It's all about money

I believe that's how much soot is put out. What % of the light is blocked by the exhaust.

that's exactly it. mine flunked in ct for a stuck valve. got valves adjusted and passed with flying colors - almost nothing on the scale.
