If I remove the egr... linkage?
 
I know this has been beat to death... but I don't think this part of it was ever dealt with...

If I yank all the crap on the top of the valve cover... and cap off the EGR... what do I do with all the linkage ends that normally go to those things?

All the linkage needs to be left alone. It's all part of the geometry needed to translate movement between your foot, cruise actuator, idle control, engine stop, and IP control. The vacuum items instde the black box can be removed. Just use your mind to reroute the lines correctly.

Here is a picture of my vacuum setup and linkage.

What did you do about the vac line that goes into the SIDE of the transmission "white yellowish" vac. control? (normally the side part gets the line coming back from the egr... but once we take that away... what did you put there?

The black tube goes to the transmission and connects to the vacuum device on the IP. Green tube is ACC system, yllow blob is the oneway valve for the door locks and vac tank, and brown is shut-off.

I did hve a problem after my first vacuum nipple broke off the main line andd i ha to relocate everything to the second npple. The engine would studder for 10 seconds before it would die. I solved this by adding a vacuum sphere from a GM van before the shut-off tube.

*Giggle* I got away with saying "nipple" :D :rolleyes: :eek:

For the record, my shifts are fine. Upshift, firmness/softness, kickdown, etc. I only have a 4-3 clunk that's not vacuum related.

Hang on!!!! I think you've hit on somthing!

In my picture... you're telling me that the line connected to the area in the yellow box (side of trans vac thing) is connected to something? OK! PLEASE! tell me what that is connected too!

It is connected to a black plastic vent line which goes into the cabin I do believe. If one were to disconnect the EGR valving just take that Y and make it a straight hose. The sole purpose is so the vacuum pump doesn't just suck in any air in the engine compartment it has to come through this special vent line which I presume has a filter somewhere.

That black tube goes to the transmission moduator. it trnslates to the transmission what the manifold vacuum would be in a gasser.

the vacuum pump sucks air from he tubes, wherever that air "leak" may be and pumps that air into the crankcase.

Yes 82-300td is talking about the one going to the tranny where as we are talking about the one on the side of the bleeder valve which is a vent line.

Actually, while I know you're lurking Jeff, any good ideas for fabricating the caps to cover the egr holes? (the round one and the oval one?)

Well hypothetically if a person were to disconnect them perhaps for some offroad driving or such I would say that the oval one would be cake to fabricate up out of 1/8" aluminum stock. Just trace the gasket and cut it out, the other one is a bit more difficult I haven't heard or came about an easy way to plug it off yet. The best thing I found so far was to cut a 1.75" circle of about 20ga material and put maybe a 1.25" piece in the center and another on the outside to make it curve. Without this I don't see how it could seal, the EGR SS tube actually wraps around the manifold there so the block off would have to do the same.
