fuel pump location

I ve got a 240D with I think fuel pump problems. No pressure/ no fuel.
I have looked for the last two hours. I've taken the trunk and back seat apart. The manual says that the fuel pump is located under the left rear panel. Found what I think are the right lines, just can't locate the pump.
Can any body out there help me?
Were is it located and were is the fuse for it?

It''s bolted to the side of the fuel injection pump on the engine. It's not electric. On a diesel like this it's a suction pump, it sucks it out of the tank.
You may have a plugged fuel filter, or even more likely is that the screen in the tank is plugging up. Is it cold where you are at? The fuel could also be gelling.

It sorta sounds like your starting where allot of us started "from the begining". You need to get your self at least a Haynes manual and start on the first page. Then look in the archives using "240D" (which is what I did when I came here). They are about the most simple engine in the world. Is your car a manual?

I have a Chilton manual and it stated that "all MB fuel injected engines are equipped with electric fuel pumps and that they are located underneath the rear floor panel".

Which or who is right?

The car is a manual trans.

I think Chilton must be referring to all fuel injected GAS engines, this statement is incorrect if you take into account DIESEL engines, which of course are also fuel injected.

Gilly is correct, no elec fuel pump and did you change both fuel filters? I have never seen the Chiltons manual for MB but I know it is not a highly regarded repair manual. Your problem is most likely not with the fuel pump, they seldom have problems. It is normal for the clear filter to have air in it also. Have you had the car running?

Could be a leaking hand primer pump if it is the old style.

I have found out that Chiltons is not the manual to buy. I change the main filter a few months back. The hand pump does leak a lot when you pump up the system. But it alway has.
I'll try the other filter.

If fuel can leak out, then air can leak in. That stupid pump is one of the most mentioned items on this forum. It has stranded people on the road, and has caused at least a few cars to be sold. For $16 at Fastlane, just change it.

Is the pump located under the manual pump?
I don't think is is a plugged filter, when I pump it manually there is plenty of fuel.
Should there be air coming out of the injectors when loosened at the head.And yes I know that this manual is all wet, looking for a differnet on now. This one has lead me on more than one wild goose chase.

Yes, the engine driven fuel pump is under the manual primer pump. No, air or fuel won't come out of the injectors just from pumping the primer pump. Click on the button labeled Fastlane at the top of the screen to buy a replacement primer pump. May I suggest getting a Haynes manual as well. They have lots of pictures to show you where this stuff is.
