last time I bothered going thru there was 95--looked like you could cut a chunk of it out of the sky with a knife. I always go thru Ruidoso or Clowd Croft and enjoy clean mountain airmost of the way west-especially since Phonix has the permanent road construction nowdays like I45 down to Houston used to.

I'm about three hours away in Marfa TX, which is almost across the street out here. I go to El Paso all the time. It's our closest airport. It is one of my favorite cities in America. Rugged good looks and a personality that is unique compared to most homogenized big cities.

By the way, I challenge anybody to find an American town with a higher W123 300TD per capita than Marfa. I know of at least 8 in this town of 2121 for a per capita of 1 per every 265 people.

That's my home town which I was anxious and happy to permanently leave over 50 years ago. While it does have a unique personality, you'll notice every house has burglar bars on the windows and many have those steel grated front doors to slow down the burglaries. If you aren't similarly protected you WILL be burglarized! It has the best Tex Mex food in the country. The dust storms in the Spring and sometimes in early summer are also unprecedented. I return frequently to visit friends and for homecoming at UTEP, and I'm happy to leave it immediately thereafter. It has changed dramatically from the town in which I grew up and worked as a cop. You couldn't pay me to live there!!

I like the upper valley, the old country club district. It might even get you into New Mexico if you don't mind that. Housing is usually a bargain anywhere around El Paso. I'd stay away from the lower valley and the areas around Ft. Bliss. Good luck!
