Looking to get another W123

I found an 81 240D with "all records", 275,00 miles, "runs great", and a few dents and spots(small, surface) of rust for sale. They are asking $2900 but I'm thinking that is a little high. Does anybody have any input as to what I should ask the ("original")owner about or what I should look for in this model? I already have two 300's one is a 300D and the other a 300SD and I really like the power they have, but there are NO hills around me that are big enough to slow me down even in the 240D's and I really like the idea of having a manual tranny in my MB. Is $2900 too much or does that sound about right? I have looked at NADA.com and they have this model as low retail for $2700 but then my 82 300D was listed for over $3600 but I only paid $1000 for that one.

ANY comments are welcomed.

Jake,

I would think price is too high if it shows any rust. Rust is like an ice berg, you only see 1/7 of what is really there.

If you think price is to high, make a lower offer I.E. what its worth to you. If the owner can't get more from someone else, he may sell to you at your price.

Remember true value is the selling price between a willing seller and a willing buyer in a free economy.

If you give yourself a 6 weeks window to purchase and follow:

1. ebay
2. our forum's classified's
3. local opportunities

you'll buy two (with less rust) for the same price.

I paid $2200 for a 123, 300DT the other day cuz I needed one now. Conversely, I paid $500 for a 126, 300SD cuz it merely came my way.
