Factory slip for your Mercedes?

Sorry moderator in CARS...I inadvertantly posted this in the CARS section.

Maybe someone here can help..I know I requested from MBUSA a copy of the "factory slip"..I'm not sure that's the right term. But it is a small card that lists all of the information including options that originally came with my car. Can someone please tell me how to get this. I recently bought a 1985 300sd that I'd like to get this for.

Thanks,

T

Send the request in writing to

Mercedes Benz USA LLC
Classic Center
Attn: Documentation
3 Paragon Drive
Montvale, NJ 07645

You need to inlcude a copy of current registration and/or Insurance Certificate.

You can request a copy of the original window sticker at the same time.

Would that be the 'birth certificate'? I read somewhere that it cost $100 for the 'brith certificate' for the car.

MB will give you a copy of the original window sticker(s) and the build card. I have not heard the term birth certificate used - but they are free.

I was really ticked off when I got the slip for my TD, it was a cheap paper copy that was cut off on one side and ALL the $ prices were blacked out!

I just hope my 240's slip is not the same.

Mine was a photo copy but had all the original $$'s. Two thing that were odd the SDL was classified as a mid-size car and the MPG sheet was 21 -25
which it does better than that.

How long does it take for them to process and mail the window sticker and the build card? The "build card" is the stamped steel ID card that has all of the serial numbers at the time of purchase correct? If so, do they reissue it with the current owner's address or the original owner's address?

I have the original, but it is 40% is corroded from the previous owners having left it in the trunk for 25 years.

Let me correct my terms from above - let's substitute "build card" with "Vehicle Data Card", there are no owner names. This is the card with FAHRZEUGDATEN on it

MB was very quick, probably less than 2 weeks turn-around.

Fahrzeugdaten is german and it means "Vehicle date" literally. so it probably is the manufactures date.

I just called MBUSA and the representative I spoke to said that just a copy of the title of the car will be sufficient... just in case someone who has not yet registered their car wants one.
