Code 7 on 1993 300D 2.5L Turbodiesel

Good day

Has anyone had the experience of getting a code 7 from the computer? It is the engine speed sensor located on the starter gear. Any ideas as to what to fix, look for, diagnose?

Anyone ever replaced the engine speed sensor. I don't think it drives the tachometer as that is functioning.

The car runs fine, just spits this same code 7 and I don't want to harm the engine, if that is possible.

Thanks

Was the engine running when you pulled the code? If not you will get a "7" since the boost computer does not sense an engine speed signal.
