Unhappy Smokin' update -Mechanical Malpractice?

Hi all:

Still sluggin' it out to save my 300D (82' 156K).

To refresh: White smoke - LOTS - on leaving a light, stop sign, etc. Also, almost any "punch" of the accelerator.

I've now had 2 Turbos put in (when I took it back after the first, the guy STILL thought it was a problem with the turbo and put in another). As you might guess he was dead wrong. Car still has the same smoking symptom. NO better, no worse than it was when I took it to him in the first place!

He now says come in for a compression test. I told him that was upsetting since I asked him about doing one 2 weeks (and 2 turbos) ago. He says that the engine runs so well, he really didn't think it needed a rebuild. Also says my first turbo was full of oil, but he'd be happy to put it back in, if I wish...

The car does run quite well.. if I never looked in the rear-view and (ignored the people giving me dirty looks), I might not even be aware that something was wrong.
What to do? I really need some advice. I cannot afford the engine rebuild.. & have already spent $733. on a turbo that doesn't change anything. Shall I get him to put the old one back in? take it to Kraft German Auto for a 3rd opinion?

I'd be most appreciative of some real guidance.

Thanks,

Joe Augustine
