whats it mean???

Hi all, new to the forum and to MB, I have seen more engine transmission and car body designations since joining this forum than I ever have I think. Is there a resource that I can use to figure out what all these things mean ie 126, 123 300D, 300SD, 300TD and so on. Thanks, John
