quick vacuum question
hello i have a question
300D 1978 5 cylinder i was checking my vacuum with the mityvac the other day and i came across this reading on the mity vac of 19[hg]; a constant reading when i plugged the mityvac from the T- fitting connecting from the vacuum pump to the brake boosters. Of course, this is with the engine on; Is this normal to have such low readings for the direct supply of vacuum from this main T-fitting section. this is the T-section where most of the accessory vacuum lines go to..(I.E:door locks, shut offs, etc) thanks for your guys help allen |

19 doesn't sound all that low; I think around 23 is normal. Are you having some sort of problem?

yeah.. having problems with the shutoff time on the 300D. I have connected the T-fitting directly to the injector's vacuum line for the shut off valve and it still takes about 20-30 seconds to shut off. just wondering if its the vacuum pump that i need to rebuild or the shut off valve thats bad...]
your thoughts are appreciated.. allen |

Try testing it the other way around. Connect the MityVac directly to the shutoff line and pump it by hand to shut down. If it won't hold vacuum, then you'll need to replace the shutoff mechanism. Be sure to read the old threads on that subject, so that you're aware of the possibility of destroying the engine.
