Oil Separator Fix on 240D

Man I finally got around to fixing the oil blowing out and around the upper & lower oil separator drain pipe as O rings wear out and leak. What a sorry way to do a oil drain back from the separator.

What I did was unbolt it from the side of the block, and pulled it up and turned it and shoved it back down so I could cut the bottom bell section off with small pipe cutter. Then after removing the upper section, I cut off the upper bell section and reinstalled it and connected upper and lower section by 1/2 inch fuel line.

Now to build a propper billet aluminum oil separator for the car, with removable top and a inexpensive washable filter inside as I did for the VW TDI's on the TDI Club forum. I checked with dealer and a OEM replacement list is $190 for the plastic piece of crap.

oldnavy - here is a like to a site that discusses the design of "cyclone separators". The oil/blowby separator works on the same principle. The key thing is to bring the line with the oil/blowby into the separator tangentially.

Thanks for the comment's and I have an excellent oil separator already designed and in use on several hundred TDI VW's. And we are working on one now that will be sort of universial and fit's all model VW's and the 240D.

Pictures can be seen here at STANCO Machine

Any chance of this "universal" one handling a 6.9l IH diesel?

Well as my dad always said, "Nothing's impossible", we are designing these to be able to use different mounting bracket's. We will only be making a couple of auto mounting bracket's, VW TDI and 240D to start. If when we get production going and you have a drawing design for a billet aluminum or machined steel mounting bracket, send it to us and we will see what we can do for you. I for one would like to talk Wayne (shop owner) into making these available maybe in a somewhat larger model for trucks with some type of universial mount or custom mount for each model of truck.

If you are intrested in these keep an eye on the website at this link STANCO Machine there is an 800 number for contacting shop at the link.

Very nice, Is there enough clearance between the hood and valve cover for it to fit as pictured?

If you are talking VW or say my 240D, then yes. It fit's under engine cover on the VW TDI and will clear hood with ease on 240D.
