Motor surges when cold.

Edit: This thread sunk like a stone, so I took the liberty of posting it again in the vintage section. Apologies for cross-posting.

I just threw the 220D block from my car into my camper. The camper's motor was getting too hard to start even in the warm weather, and the firewall had rusted away in the car, couldn't get to it without removing the motor that is, at least I have one running vehicle now.........

........however, the 220D block is exhibiting the same symtoms when cold as the old block did. That is not running smoothly when just started, something like an air raid siren, but not so high pitched and quicker. If it was a sine wave, it would peak and trough every second or so.

I should be able to narrow this down, as the motor was running fine in the car.......

What has changed since the transfer......

......it gets air through a different air filter (both are oil filled), fuel from a different tank (no visible air in the line), and all the couplings from the accelerater pedal to injection pump etc., I'm think the one that crosses over to the exhaust might be causing everything to be totally out of sync, or something.

Any comments or possible troubleshooting tactics well appreciated.
