603 serpentine belt

I have confirmed that it is possible to change the belt on the 603 without removing either the fan or the shroud. You must thread the belt down between the water pump and the crank through a very narrow space, but, after that, it is not too bad.

Of course, it pays to have a belt diagram with you. If you try to run the belt out from the tensioner between the alternator and the water pump, you are hosed! The belt appears to look fine, but there is negligible wrap on the crank and it is about 1/2 inch too short.

Removing the shroud and fan is easy, at least the second time you do it. The first time it might be really tight. I've done it a few times and it takes less than 5 minutes.
