87 300D Whats clicking on my right kick panel &making my lights flash on and off..

On my 87 300D,My headlights flick on and off at the weirdest times, sometimes even when the car is parked and not running, and I bump it.
I have isolated the sound to a component in my lower passenger side kick panel, next to where the Front passenger's right foot would be..
Please help I have been so busy lately I dont have the time to fully diagnose this and I am doing the Chain this weekend...

When the headlights are flicking on and off..

When the headlights are flicking on and off..I hear that component clicking for no apparent reason...I postponed troubleshooting this before because I thought it was behind the dash and I didnt want to mess up the nice trim on my Car...

Your anti theft alarm system is activating. The audio alarm should be heard too, but it is probably disconnected. The brain for the unit (Becker) is located under a panel in the passenger side floor and it is the tick you're hearing. It can be disabled by removing wires there. Mine occasionally goes off while unlocking the drivers side door. Have to relock the door and unlock the passenger side door or trunk to get it to stop.

How do I either Fix the System or Disconnect it...

It might not be a Bad Idea to FIX it--do I replace the BECKER UNIT?

If I dont want it, how do I disable it--Just unplug the Unit?

I guess I am answering my own questions. I see the 2nd wire to the Horn in the engine compartment that was removed....

The problem is probably one of the sensors erroniously telling the brain to do its job. You would have to figure out which one it is and fix that. It's alot easier to unplug it though, and I will do it eventually to mine-low priority job.

Carrameow, there are a bunch of sensors that can trigger the alarm system. I once had a 190E with a bad sensor behind the radio. Every time it hit a bump bad enough the jiggle the radio, the alarm would come on. There's also one on the hood and I think another one on the trunk.

87 300D --Just starting to feel comfortable with the Car

I am just starting to get to know the W124 class...
I was starting to get good at the W123 Class and I felt like I knew where every screw and wire and vacuum line went by memory, and the W124 was a little intimidating at first
Unfortunately I am 44 now, not 24, boy I still wish I had that kid's enthusiasm about cars and could see this Car through those eyes.
My biggest fear is of marring or ruining the factory fit and nice finish on everything. No matter what everyone says, this is a Mercedes, and a great well made car, a 170 hp Diesel that can really move out on the Highway..
As I said i wish I was 24 again, maybe then your car was more important than your girlfriend and you treated it accordingly...now that girlfriend is your wife, but I guess that beats talking to yourself on a Friday night.........
