EGT readings for OM603?
Does anyone have a pyrometer setup on their stock or mostly stock OM603 vehicle? I'm interested in the max/min EGT readings under a variety of load characteristics if someone has this data handy.

Since all the automotive MB diesels have aluminium-alloy pistons, 1250*f at the exhaust port should be the max limit, 1150*f to be safe with the 603's alum head.
I don't joke around with combustion temps. I just tore apart a Cummins 4Bt from a Bimbo Bakery truck that melted the #1 and #4 pistons. #4 got SO HOT, it melted the exhaust stem and embedded the valve head in the piston. It's a sad sight to see a melted engine. In the end he will need: New head, valves, pistons, recondition the rods, and bore+sleeve the block. Don't EVER let this happen to you, the driver was plain stupid not to hear the engine screaming for it's life. |
