Except that the fan clutch won't let the fan get over 3500rpm.

He means locked. You will notice no gains with it off but higher engine temps.

MY BOSCH ELECTRIC FAN'S SET UP IS GREAT AND WORK'S PERFECT, ILL MAKE A MOVIE AND TAKE PICTURES THIS WEEKEND FOR YOU GUYS!

OK now the next post will be about all the parts i am ordering tomorrow, you guys are going to say that i am nut, but i don't care i am changing everything even if it does not need to be changed. I want everything to be in a Showroom state.

Horsepower sells cars, but TORQUE wins races. Horsepower wins brags, but TORQUE wins the drags.
That is offensive.

Reality usually is.

Thats why a 400hp V8 will always beat a 400hp turbo-4 in the same vehicle weight range.

Heres some reality:

torque = tau(torque vector) = r(position vector) cross F(force vector)

Power(scalar) = tau(torque vector) dot omega(angular velocity vector)

means:

torque is a "twisting" force
power is a quantity dependent on that force and the rotational speed
in other words, power is the "twist" times the "speed of twisting"

The reason a 400hp V8 beats a 400hp I4 is that the I4's peak torque happens at higher omega (rotational speed, rpm), or in terms of position, further down the track, therefore its quarter-mile time is greater due to its lower acceleration. Yes, the I4 has "less torque" but that doesn't complete the story. If you were to make a really big I4 with similar displacement to the V8, you could probably beat it.

The reason the quote is offensive is that it doesn't tell a good story.

ForcedInduction 10-30-2008 08:59 PM

Nope, thats wrong because the large 4-banger couldn't turn fast enough to make 400hp quickly.

How the heck, is that offensive? its only the truth....

By the way to make a good comparison, take a I4 (or any engine)with 250lbs of torque/125 HP and a I4 with 250HP/125lbs of torque. The engine with more torque will easily, beat the HP one just because it always has Brute Force fast, no need to rev high... so to win a race or climb a hill you need torque!

A car with lot's of torque, will beat a ricer hp car, all day long and can work harder longer.
