W126 300SD '82 Modification's
Hey guys sorry if i have not been here in a while, well now here i am! (by the way check out my new pictures Albums!!!) Yeah so now i got many parts to "mod" my 300SD! I am changing the intake Manifold because, i am fitting an intercooler from an Audi TT and the intake manifold is from Herr Frank, the W115 that went to the crusher.
Now i am taking out the clutch fan and fan and i am fitting 2 electric fans, with a relay and a thermo switch. The fans should activate around 80, i am going to use my Stock MB a/c fan to blow air through and, 2 Chevy/GM fans hooked up to the thermo switch "ill show you pics of my parts soon" so that should recuperate some HP and be more efficient! Why electric fans? because as most of you know when your engine is cold that when wear and use is hard on the engine with electric fans, the engine will warm quicker and that = up to longer longevity! Since i am doing those mod's well i am going to fit my W115 300D intake and, do all the piping to the intercooler Air to Air. Well My shop is in the same building as a Tuning shop so we help each other out and i am thinking of fitting a injector in the intake manifold to shoot winter windshield fluid at WOT "even tho i don't have a throttle LOL" that should clean my combustion chambers. well that might make more torque too! Now i need to know if i am hooking up a Nitrous oxide bottle to all this i just might when everything is done. I tried it before with the W115 and it worked great! this kit i could get it from the tuning shop next to me! but that's fare away in the future! Now me and my machinist friend we are making a Stainless Steel 3inch exhaust for it with hardly any bends that will sound good and free all the torque! I already did the timing chain on my car and timed the injection Pump. For the record everything in an air flow going through is getting ported so there is no restriction! only the Head will remain the same! Now the tranny will remain as Stock BUT i got a friend at a Rad shop that will make my oil pan 1-2 1/2inch deeper to allow more oil! I am adding a Tranny oil cooler next to the intercooler out front, so the tranny will be happy with lots of MB oil and lots of cooling!!! For the turbo i am fitting an adjustable fitting in the waste gate tubing so i can allow it to boost a little bit more up to 12-13 psi max. For the gauges i am adding a VDO Boost Gauge, a Amp meter, a volt meter, a tranny fluid temperature sensor, a differential temperature sensor, a news ambient air and outside air sensor's for the inboard VDO temp display and a EGT gauge. So that's all for the mechanical part's unless i need or forgot something else? Anyways i am repainting the Car with MB paint and doing all kinds of custom stuff! I got a W126 420 SEL to get the electric/heated seat's for my 300SD, since they are not heated and the headrest are not electric like in the 420SEL! Well the interior is getting a HUGE HUGE make over everything is new! From the door locking knobs that are chromed to the Brand new Sport MB Steering Wheel to the MB Zebrano Shifter and so on! Everything that light's up will be blue from the gauge cluster lights to the door lights to the rear map lights will be blue. My Aluminum door sills the "Mercedes-Benz" sing lights up blue too! all the Zebrano wood is replaced with brand new one's! So yeah i got a new camera to take all kinds of Pictures of my cars for you MB lovers out there, if you got any suggestion's comments or idea's? fire AWAY! thanks ! check out my news pics i will add many more as i keep working on my Cars! (forced induction will probably find something wrong or help me out LOL love ya Lance haha) I love my 300SD with all my heart and i take good care of it!!!!!! "my other MB's get great treatment too but the SD is special" (by the way all the oil's are changed regularly) from the engine oil "3800K KM's" (about 2500K miles) to power steering fluid to tranny ETC i even cleaned out my Diesel tank for the hell of it! i don't care about spending money for my MB's because i love them i might seem to be obsess well i am! SO WHAT? hahahaha take care guys ! drink Beer enjoy life/MB's and beautiful girls! BYE |

What is that intercooler from? Was there enough clearance to put the 115 intake on without pulling the turbo? You should look into a Fram 8038 filter, its got 2x the surface area and you should have plenty of room for it in the SD engine bay.
I'm not trying to be an @ss, but your green coolant is low... |

I just threw up inside my mouth........:stunned: |
why do you have a gasser front end? Meaning your fan and its supports are not stock diesel stuff
|
That fan blows an incredible amount of air compared to the diesel's. I used one of those years back to cool a hotrodded 390 ford.
Mine is getting the same before its put back together after the paint goes on next week. |
Anybody try a belt driven fan off of a Mercedes V8 gasser? The one on the 450 looks like the turbine blades of a jet engine, and puts out a similar amount of air
|
Where are you getting brand new Zebrano? If you don't mind my asking?
|
NO MORE CLUTCH FAN! Electric fans HUMMMMMM nice
Well here is an update...... (nothing i am doing is either because the parts were worn off or broken! its for Performance, reliability, and do the best as i can to make my W126 Bulletproof and fast!)
EVERY SINGLE PARTS THAT GOES ON MY CAR IS EITHER MADE FROM GERMANY, MERCEDES-BENZ ORIGINAL PART'S, A BOSCH PRODUCT, OR BREMBO/ZIMMERMAN BRAKE PARTS i do not put any cheap crap in/on my cars only the Great OEM or High Performance German parts! Hey well not i installed my new radiator AND i took off the "clutch fan" from the water pump pulley, no more cooling while the engine is already COLD, no more HP drain, no more BS! i estimated that usually a belt driven clutch fan ROBS from 6-8 HP. Since my F$CK*&G clutch fan was BAD and shaky like crazy, it probably robbed like 20HP  lol i installed new Hoses all around, new Thermostat, new electric cooling fans, new radiator, Sand blaster the water pump pulley, new water pump, New Transmission Air2Air cooling Radiator, new belts, new Mercedes-Benz dextron3 mercon3 ATM Fluid, new ATM filter/gasket, New Mercedes-Benz prestone and ah electric relay for the cooling fans. Now i installed a GM V6 electric cooling fan, with a second smaller Bosch electric cooling fan. Instead of the clutch fan everything is now activated with a relay it can be set from 160* to 280* "that's what temperature the relay engages the cooling fans". I am going to set it at about 80 degrees "about 175*-180*" when actually the thermostat start's opening. i will update this weekend i have to go for right now ill have more detail's this weekend! keep reading!:D Here enjoy some new pics! "might have to check my profile i cannot attach any files for some weird reason?" |

Just got my breath situation squared away, and lo and behold I just threw up in my mouth again.
Must avoid this thread, must avoid this thread........ |
your probably not saving much hp with the electric fan. The load is just being shifted to your alternator.
Its way less bulletproof than a viscous clutch fan. You have relays, wires, motors, fuses (hopefully), connections that can come loose, and the added load cant be good for your alternator/battery/voltage reg |
Quote:
The reasons for electric fans are usually either due to low engine RPM at idle, an A/C retrofit on an engine not originally designed for A/C, backup cooling, or a transverse mounted engine. It isn't to save power. If you look at current RWD vehicles they still use a mechanically driven fan for the primary cooling. It is simple, has the highest efficiency, and just plain works. Good luck with experimenting with your car. I'm not trying to discourage you but rather to point you in directions where you won't be wasting your time and money. |
okay I am very new at this but a 3 inch exhaust on a turbo deisel isn't that kinda silly, all the restriction of the system is in the turbo right? So putting on a 3 inch exhaust wouldn't really free up anything (if I am wrong here and very well could be sorry in advance)
|
A turbo engine likes to have as close to zero restriction in the exhaust system that follows it. True, the turbo is the largest "restriction" in the exhaust system, but the more free the exhaust after the turbo the lower the EGTs and the faster the turbo will spool.
That being said the stock exhaust system flows fairly well. |
Bigger exhaust never hurt a diesel, but the is a point of diminishing returns and much higher cost. 2.5" is pretty good, and a 3" would be the max you would need.
|
Forced has it right
DieselFreak,
I admire your gusto, but Forced is right. Especially about the head. If you're going to spend the time and money on the intake and exhaust side, do something with the head as well. You will most surely be pleased with the results. |
YEAH well sh*t.....
I know Forced is always right ! lol i love him too! BUT BUT BUT i own my own Specialized Shop and in the same building there is a Custom Tuning shop, so i have done lots of swaps and trial and errors..... BUT i can confirm that clutch fans are *****ty and do free the engine and water pump from working harder! i did dyno runs with many cars with clutch fan/electric swaps and always showed the same result!
Anyways i admire a love this forum BUT even if i did what everybody wanted here, there will always be someone not liking it so ...... everything is done the best as i can and well done! Forced by the way the W115 exhaust manifold i got for you is ready to ship, its all sand blasted for ya! i just gotta find time to ship it! So guys lets keep on giving good positive thought's! i am taking out the electric head rest in my W126 420SEL and putting them on my 300SD! HELL YEAH !!!! I got many news pictures for you guys to "criticize" about but the site wont accept them!?!?!?!? i have no clue why illl have forced figure out how. By the way i did a huge burn out today with my 420SEL it felt great! i smoked up the whole shop hahahhahahahahah!!!!!! it was awesome! So this week end the 300SD is getting pimped out !!!! Ill tell you guys out it worked out! thanks for the outputs and keep posting !!!!!!even if it negative!!!! ;);););):D |
Head job
GUYS CALM DOWN I WILL HEAVILY MODIFY THE HEAD BUT NEXT YEAR! I NEED TO START ONE SET AT A TIME!!!! CHILL OUT! ill do everything bolt on first and next summer ill take off the head! REMEMBER my GARAGE has only 2 lift's so, during the week my cars needs to be out my garage, so i can earn money to afford more parts! Lance forced i will modify the head next summer and ill keep you posted on that and show everybody picture!
Alright everybody calmed down now? hahahahahaha i am drinking a beer and i am pretty happy right now there is about 1200$ of parts is my living room ready to be installed on my 300SD this weekend (3 day weekend by the way) so that a F*cking ***** load of parts! by the way i forgot to tell you guys i was going to do something else, i am going to put a adjustable fitting in the wastegate hose to make the turbo boost up the 12-13 psi! and might remove the ADLA like Forced did! |
Quote:
Anyways i am happy to say i got a couple gallons of MB Coolant today F*ck that Green coolant BS! with everything i am doing to the 300SD that should help it! since its the right coolant! The fluids/lubricants that i am using in my car are, engine oil: MOTUL 6100 10W40 Technosynthese Engine Oil, Auto trans: ATM Mexron 3 Mercon 3 Quaker state "from the MB dealer", Power steering: ATM fluid Mercon3 Engine cooling: Mercedes-Benz yellow long life Prestone and the Diesel Fuel is from the IRVING station down next to my shop where there is a truck stop, so there is new fuel all the time! And i run Liqui Moly Cetane booster and other German made Diesel additives!:tank: |
Jimmy...Jimmy... the great pool of relaxation and tranquility awaits- step away from the light, slowly.
|
OEM water pump
OK well everything went well today i got the water pump pulley sand blasted and painted, everything that i removed was sand blasted and painted either black or Aluminum.
When i tried to swap the wheels off the 420SEL to the 300SD 14" wont fit the 420SEL 1986 damn it so i gotta put something on it, i can't just drop it on the disc brakes hahahaha Oh yeah what i was posting about is well now i got this German replacement water Pump, and when i took off my Mercedes-Benz water pump the thing was mint! It made less noise then the replacement pump !!!!!!! daaaamn! so not i decided no to replace it just take off the rust and put it back on! wow Mercedes-Benz make parts that last forever this water pump is the original and never been changed and doesn't even make one little noise! it turn smoothly so f*ck changing it for nothing! Tomorrow ill have an update on how things worked out! |
How much have your put in your car so far...

From the M-B sport leather steering wheel to the Zebrano wood shifter, to the Alluminum door sills with Mercedes-Benz written on them that lights up blue...... to what ever that is a Mercedes-Benz Part or German! I do not go over the top tho! i dont not like M-B's that look like its a f*cking P.O.S. Japanese crap, i would never do something that would make my car looks totaly stupid..... *Update*: ahhhhhhh I installed the all my new "cooling parts" and everything went Perfect! Now i got 2 M-B Bosch fans that cools the radiator. One blows air through and one pulls air through. the cooling effect is great since they are not one next to each other. IF I CAN FINNALY UPLOAD MY DA*M PICTURES YOU GUYS COULD SEE EVERYTHING THAT IS DONE OR IN PROGRESS STUPID INTERNET !!!! " it keeps saying security problem for some weird reason!:mad::mad::mad::mad: |
So... what is the real purpose of the mods? I know you said to make your car "bulletproof and fast"... but those things never go hand-in-hand.
What are your estimated gains with these mods? What was wrong with the way the car performed beforehand? |
Quote:
i can always give great estimates to my costumers about power gains but, with my car its different since i am doing so many things at once and i am not ready to answer that yet sorry. Sorry i got a phone call from a girl ill answer your questions better this weekend, sorry dude pussy before forums man hahahahah, the forum does not have any boobs so i much as i would like to type more stuff about my car and etc i have to go right now she is waiting for me ! :D;):D but ill be back soon. |
I saw a dyno of a vehicle that pulled to SIX THOUSAND RPM that went from a clutch fan to e-fans... picked up a whopping 6rwhp. Awesome.
|
Im guessing since air resistance increases exponentially an engine redlining at 6500-7000rpm would benefit much more from an electric fan than a diesel redlining at 4500 would
|
I just thought I would mention that no OM617 car I have seen has a red line on the tach. The governor on the IP won't let the engine rev high enough to hurt itself :D

He means locked. You will notice no gains with it off but higher engine temps. |
MY BOSCH ELECTRIC FAN'S SET UP IS GREAT AND WORK'S PERFECT, ILL MAKE A MOVIE AND TAKE PICTURES THIS WEEKEND FOR YOU GUYS!
OK now the next post will be about all the parts i am ordering tomorrow, you guys are going to say that i am nut, but i don't care i am changing everything even if it does not need to be changed. I want everything to be in a Showroom state. So Tomorrow morning i am ordering all new parts, oil pan's , fuel line/cigar hose, front suspension(coil springs, Shocks, sway bar bushings, control arms, lower ball joints and others), steering( new complete tie rod tie rod end connecting rod, center connecting rod and others) NEW brakes all around 4 Brembo disc's, 2 sets of Pagid brake pads, 4 new calipers, 4 new front wheel bearings, new deeper auto trans oil pan, front and rear sub frame mounts, new rear shocks, 4 Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 winter studded tires, and more...... this is going to be a big amount of cash/parts going into the 300SD once again!:D:cool::D I should be done soon.... |
How'd I miss this thread? Amazing...........
|
wow whats the point to post stuff here...... to get b*tched at ??? for no reason? i was going to put new pic's and detail of my car's, but is it worth it?? Well if you know-it-all guys out there think they are so great, what the hell are you doing on this site? You should be inventing a Time Machine since you think your so much superior! J*rk's
if you do not like some thread's don't read them! your a waste of my time... For the other normal, cool forum members i apologize, for these pointless stupid comment's on behalf of the Smartest people of the universe. (JimmyL and babymog) Wish them luck.... |
Alright now that the j*rk's are taken care of lets get back to work......:D
|
Wait, you're doing all this work for the car to be in "a showroom state", then you're gonna drive it in the snow/winter?
What? |
Yeah dude isn't that crazy? i know, i know, but anyways i am painting and rustproofing the under side of the car... anyways ill post pics........

Reality usually is.
Thats why a 400hp V8 will always beat a 400hp turbo-4 in the same vehicle weight range. |
Quote:
torque = tau(torque vector) = r(position vector) cross F(force vector) Power(scalar) = tau(torque vector) dot omega(angular velocity vector) means: torque is a "twisting" force power is a quantity dependent on that force and the rotational speed in other words, power is the "twist" times the "speed of twisting" The reason a 400hp V8 beats a 400hp I4 is that the I4's peak torque happens at higher omega (rotational speed, rpm), or in terms of position, further down the track, therefore its quarter-mile time is greater due to its lower acceleration. Yes, the I4 has "less torque" but that doesn't complete the story. If you were to make a really big I4 with similar displacement to the V8, you could probably beat it. The reason the quote is offensive is that it doesn't tell a good story. |
Nope, thats wrong because the large 4-banger couldn't turn fast enough to make 400hp quickly.
|
The reason the quote is offensive is that it doesn't tell a good story.
How the heck, is that offensive? its only the truth.... By the way to make a good comparison, take a I4 (or any engine)with 250lbs of torque/125 HP and a I4 with 250HP/125lbs of torque. The engine with more torque will easily, beat the HP one just because it always has Brute Force fast, no need to rev high... so to win a race or climb a hill you need torque! A car with lot's of torque, will beat a ricer hp car, all day long and can work harder longer. |
Alright i took 277 pictures today, i hope you guys enjoy it all..... feel free to leave some comment's or questions!

Check out my Photobucket profile, you will be able to see all my pictures over there!!!
