This is quite possible, but how about spelling out your goals, why this is important, and how much you're willing to spend?

I love this car bought it to go WVO or bio diesel buy have since just stayed with regular diesel. This is the slowest car I have ever owned. And I still love it.

I have already installed a K & N drop in and replace the two mufflers with magnaflows and had the pump pressure adjusted up a little . my mechanic says it is as fast as any one he has driven.I also have installed Bilstein shocks all round as well.

I am use to driving faster cars, previously had, An SHO, 16valve GTI, 2002 honda odyssey van with 245hp 0-60 7.6 sec, and also have a miata now.

The only thing I wish I could change is the performance so when I go to pass some one I don't have to fear not being able to pass.

As far as budget I am open. Would be tempted to sell the miata to fund the change if I need to.

I have also always wanted a sleeper car and this would be it.

Hope this makes my intentions clearer.

Hi and Welcome,

What you can do is:

phase 1 (~145 HP):

Get the engine is TOP condition. Change all fluids. Make sure the trany is fine.

EGT gauge

Boost Gauge

Boost regulator

Intercooler

About 1.5 turns on the full load on Injection Pump and about 500+ rpm on the max speed governor.

phase 2 (~200 rwhp)

Larger Intercooler

Larger Turbo

Myna Pump Modification. Myna is a company in Finland (Europe) that is specialized in diesel tuning. They install larger elements (7mm vs 5.5mm stock ones) as well as perform some in house tuning. Modifying your pump will cost about 800 or 1000 euros but you also have to ship to them. IIRC the whole cost of the the IP modification might run in the $2000 range.

All you need is money , time, money, will, money, patience and last but not least MONEY .

I use to have 4 SHO's and got out of that game. Now I have 4 diesel mercedes. Problem with the SHO is that it's a great drivetrain but it's in an old Ford body. So most are rusty, seats are trashed, subframe bushings, struts, etc etc etc. And it's FWD. Let's not forget the horrible torque steer

Ya the mercedes is slow in comparison. But it has lot's of potential, much better body, RWD,they still make parts and it's a Mercedes. The SHO, however, is 5spd.... I start my 5spd swap very very soon, like maybe in a month

Does this basic list of 2.5 mods apply to my om603? I am guessing it does. I would LOVE to see/feel 200-225hp with my soon to be 5spd 300D.

PS..

After my 300sd IP timing job I can now, for the first time, power brake. Kinda neat.

What are they doing that someone here can't figure out? Are the 7mm elements custom made? I have never seen an element before so I really have no idea. $2000 is cheaper than I thought it was. The way ppl talk I thought it was $5000 or something.

Anyway, none of this seems very hard to do.

Well, I've been in contact with Tomnik, another member of this forum, and he sells 7 mm elements, they're about $60/element, obviously you need 5 so that is about $300+shipping from Germany.

Then you need to install them and balance the pump on a test bench.

Myna also adds external controls so you don't have to open the back panel of the IP to change the power settings etc.

They also say they do some "magics" inside the pump but I don't know what they really do as it is a secret.

You can also get 6mm elements from an om606 turbo IP and maybe that would be enough for about ~180 hp.

That is what I thought. I would need 6 elements. Anyone going to try it?

Try what? I'm torn whether I should keep my current car or just sell it and buy a 0-62 in under 8sec gasser.

I might as well buy the elements, and have them installed on my IP. If I'm happy with it I'm might even start selling modified IPs for less than $1000 shipped to the US .

Seems like you'd be close with just swapping to an '87 with the additional cylinder, good running ones w/o the trap-ox are around 150hp. Stock with the original trap-ox was 8.7seconds 0-55mph.

The belief here is that the 603 IP is capable of close to 200hp with stock 5.5mm elements.

Not a tire-burner, but respectable.

Spending the same money on the 603 will give you one cylinder more power.

trap oxidizer....

I have a general idea what that looks like... I dont think I see one on my car. Where would it be exactly? I think it's right under the turbo on the down pipe. I may do the 3 inch exhaust deal this winter too. So if there is an oxidizer it will be gone.

Trap-ox is the football-shaped thing in the pipe from the exhaust manifold to the turbo.
