Hello,
This is my first post, as I have been able to find most of the info I am looking for through searches, so thanks for all the past posts. Now, I have some questions I need answered and don't know where to look.
The car is: 1984 190d 2.2 with 241k miles, 5speed, mint california car that I traded a racing kart for.
The car smoked for previous owner and he lost interest, my brother's repair shop did a head (had a blown head gasket), timing chain, tensioners, guides, injectors, glow plugs, timed the IP with a dowel-type tool. Two under hood fuel filters have been replaced as well as the air filter, return lines and EGR components. Motor mounts are new, and engine shock. The car then sat for a year with a tank full of B100. I am trying to run the B100 out of it, but might need to drain the remaining 1/2 tank if the minds on here see fit. Sounds like some diesel additive might be appropriate.
Currently, here are my questions/plans:
- Blue smoke at idle and upon acceleration, how do I address this or should I get the B100 out first and see if it clears up with new fuel?
- I have read much about adjusting the IP on almost all the MB diesels except this 601, is there a thread to help me get more performance from this one?
- On top of the IP is a vacuum device with a blocked hose, is there a source for a vacuum diagram for this car (in english?) (1 427 231 001 is the number on the part, has a painted yellow adjustment screw) (I will try to post a picture) Was this part of the cruise control that was removed? Is it critical?
- The car ran very rough at light to medium throttle until I unplugged the electrical plug from the EGR vacuum valve on the LF inner fender, now it runs fairly strong, but still has blue smoke and some roughness, especially at idle and light throttle. Idles around 700rpm and stalls when cold. Tach does work.
- Next Step: make an endurance racecar for 25-hours of Thunder Hill et al using this 2.2 engine and maybe chassis and the 1987 190E 2.3 16 valve I picked up in Atlanta this week. It's a bit of a rat, so would make a good donor. I would prefer to avoid turbo/blower, and I am considering propane injection. I am not looking to make gobs of HP, just enough to keep the car somewhat competitive while we make our way to the front using fuel strategy and reliability.
So that is a start, and hopefully I can get this car running well enough to warrant the racecar conversion. Having raced in several 24 hour races (including twice in the Rolex 24 at Daytona) and having driven a 190e 2.3 for a decade, I think the project would be a great exercise in spending money.
Thanks in advance for any help, and I will try to get some pictures of the parts/cars up ASAP.
