what to do,do?300d/240d

Hi, My 85 300d only has 140k,auto,turbo runs good, and good trans mission. This poor girl took her final voyage 1 yr ago when I was forced off of highway and took heavy frame and suspension damage to a already rusty to the core undercarriage. Last year I bought a 83 240d for 500.00. It`s a 4speed runs fine and good tranny. Love the new fuel mpg. but feels like a slug. Can I swap engines easily or put the turbo in 240 off of my 300d ? Thankyou , kev ,Gotfree300dman

Putting the turbo from the 300d onto the 240d would be the most work and since the 240 isn't designed for a turbo, it would shorten the engine's life. The 4 cylinder isn't going to make as much power as the 5 cylinder would either

Swapping the entire 300 turbo motor into the 240 would be an easier conversion, and give you a better result, both in terms of power AND service life. A conversion like this takes a little fabrication skill though.

The best alternative of all seems to me, would be find a cheap 300d with a good body and a wasted motor and swap yours into it.

That way you keep the 240d in its original condition (some people really LOVE the old slugs and will pay a good price for a nice one), and still end up with a 300d turbo to drive. A straight-across engine swap is by FAR the least amount of work and hassle.

Thanks alot for your input. Your idea with finding another 300d has been on the back of my mind. That 300d was a gift and was named by my kids" Hottie Dottie". I`ve already swaped lots of parts over to "Doc" my 240 cause I got to close to a Hippiemorono suv and rear ended it like a dummie. Hood, bumper, etc. I work in a body shop so that is helphful. Lately I've startied Restoring Doc.Going back the orginal s. stage blue, light blue. I really enjoy my slug, just wish it had more getty up! Thanks again , Kev

Thats what I have. You may want to consider a stronger pressure plate.
