i noticed that people have a different looking manifold on theyre 617s and i was wondering here you got it or what car it came off of and what kinda gains would be expected from it?

Its from a 1975 300D, W115 chassis, and the C111-II and III. It gives slightly better volumetric efficiency and torque but the main benefit is the relocation and standard hose fitting of the inlet.

When I come across one in the junkyards its usually around $20 since it doesn't have a throttle or sensors.

Im doing a custom intake that will end up similar to forum member JTY intake seen elsewhere im starting out with a 621 intake -the great grandaddy of the 617 out of a 58' pon--Toon. It doesn't seem that long runners make sense on a turbo diesel, but perhaps yes according to Jeemu, like a naturally asperated diesel is just a engine that hasn't seen boost yet--so maybe on takeoff and up to the transition where boost takes over, perhaps there is some benefit to long runners with cylinder filling. Anyway it is a plus to get the plenum away from exhaust and heat sink. Im gonna whack these tubes off at about 7.5 and use the spare runner material to scab on the 5th runner and might use the d shaped plenum from ross machine.
