om617 Mods ????
Okay am am running out the door to wash and wax the 85 300SD and take my folks ( 85 + 86 years old ) to a USMC reunion and then Tuesday to a Memorial Dedication at the USMC National Museum. Please excuse my rush. I have not done a search yet but does anyone have a link for some of the basic performance mods on this engine/car. And good details as to what each mod does and effects. I have always liked to do one mod at a time to see and evaluate the change both positive and negative. Also the rear end gear ratio on this car. Can I get the ration from the Stealership ? ( this car is original except for the IP which was replaced under warranty early in it's life)
I am looking at 3 things in particular: 1. Alda adjust / remove and the 2 lines going into it. 2. EGR remove and block off plu the vac line 3. Delete center resonator ? 4. I have seen a few people change the filter out to a remote location as in the 300D. 5. Check the boost pressure, where to connect gauge to check. I have read many of the threads but I am certain not all. If there is not a single video/ photo step by step instruction link maybe I can make one with some detailed help from some of the gurus here. My son ( Boy Scout ) and Daughter ( Girl Scout) want to do the video portion and learn about the car in the process ( as does my older daughter who wants the 85 as soon as she gets her license----- FAT Chance !) Thanks I will search through the threads again and see what I find but was curious as to if a great one already existed. Anyway here I go Wash, Buff, Wax, Clean the interior, reinstall some interior pieces. Install new headlight and change the oil. Oh also rehang exhaust so it stops rattling. Have to be done in 3 hours so I can pick up the folks ( 30 min drive) and drive them to USMC base ( Quantico ) Later.

Look the the "Resources" tab at the top-right frame of the page (PeachParts forum). The "DIY articles" section contains good writeups on many mods that are vehicle/engine specific. "DIY Links" are links to threads posted here by parts category. You'll find many useful things in both sections.

Look up the alda line cleaning, made a difference on the cars I've done it to. Dieselgiant has a how to.
Make sure all your filters are clean, including the tank strainer. No sense in looking for more HP when its being choked by old filters. I'll go ahead and say it, best OM617 mod is getting a car with an OM603. Then I'll even do the next post, best mod for an 603 is 606... there, its been said.

alda remove. I adjusted mine, big help, took it off and gained a little more. Make sure the banjo bolt and line to alda is clear. If taking alda off this is a good connection for a boost gauge.
Adjust boost, mine was three psi low, raised it to factory specs. not a great improvement but noticable. EGR delete, no differance in power,at least not seat of the pants, perhaps a dyno would show it. Helps keep intake cleaner though. Next step adjust IP. On the 240 this is not much trouble, but the 300 you will need to remove the oil filter to get to it. I think there is a sticky on it. If not superturbodiesel does have a sticky on it. Adjusting the IP for more fuel did make quite a differance on my 240. the 300 I never did mess with it.The other things gave me enough.

Thanks for the suggestions. I know I still need to check the valve adjustment but all the filters and fuel lines have been done. I need to do some other items first like brake pads and rotors as well as new shocks all around.
I might be able to get to the Alda & EGR mods this weekend though.

Do not remove the alda unless you're comfortable with the risk of killing the engine.

I have not heard of taking the alda off killing any engines. Nor has it harmed my engine. Have you had an engine give up because of removing Alda?

The ALDA prevents damaging temperatures from excessive boost pressures. Without it, there is nothing but the driver in control of engine safety.

Lance- ie rusty beard, ie evil monkey, ie forced induction obviously has some issues to deal with. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Removing the ALDA requires a boost gauge and a driver that actually watches it and knows what sounds may be abnormal for the vehicle. Otherwise excessive boost from a failed wastegate can damage the turbo and/or engine.
