om617 injection timing
I replaced my injection pump in my 300td and while ago because the previous owner adjusted the delivery valve incorrectly and it caused a rough idle. I checked the timing with a AB- timing light and both light were on at 18 degree ATDC. I installed the new pump and timed it to 15ATDC like the shop manual suggests.
Runs good but its not as fast as it used to be 50-70mph is very slow, i wonder if i should set it 18 ATDC again and see how it performs.

Drip Timing Threads
Spec for OM617's is 23º-25º BELOW TDC!!! Not ABOVE! If it's in fact set to above I can only imagine what's happening. 26º BTDC seems to be the sought after degree, this is a highly debated topic I'm finding, but at least that number seems consistent...

i set timing using the mercedes a-b light. and spec using that a-b light is 15 degrees ATDC. I wasnt sure if 18ATDC would be advanced or retarded.

ATDC, the higher the number, the more retarded since it's later. BTDC is opposite.

so i should set timing at 13ATDC with my a-b light, that would equal about 26BTDC if i was doing the drip method, correct?

Dr. Bert posted info on advancing the IP Timing.
I tried advacing the timing using the Drip Method and on the low end it did indeed seem to have a little more pep but for me it nailed at idle and that was with with rebuilt Injectors. Note I pulled all My rebuilt Injectors (Monark Nozzles) at 28 K Miles and they were all great. They were still at 2000 psi or the ones that varied the Needle on the Gauge was touching either sied of the Black 2000 psi line on the Gauge.
