1995 E300D OM606 Injection Pump

Hey guys/gals,

I just purchased a 95 E300D. The PO told me he had the vacuum pump replaced and a timing chain guide/rail repaired.

It was smoking a little, and the power wasn't what I expected, but it was clean and well maintained. I flew to New Jersey and picked it up and drove it back to Michigan. I figured I'd do a purge when I got home.

Smoking got worse on the trip home. I picked up an additive, but it wasn't a moly product... couldn't find one on the road. Smoke got worse. White smoke.. embarassing level.. but I got home. In a bit of correspondence with the PO to get more clues, he menitoned that the smoke and power loss happened after the repair.

He sent me some pictures, and one of them was the injector pump sitting on a bench. The position port on the pump had the plug in.. no blade lock tool.. My first clue that I may be dealing with a mechanic who didn't have the tools to do the job.

So now I'm thinking the pump needs to be adjusted.. or worse, pulled and rotated / adjusted to bring it into timing.

I have a local guy who I use, but I just found out he's pulling back (retirement) and has sold his Static Position Sensor tool.

I'm hoping someone on the forum has one they could rent out for a weekly rate.

Even better, I'm hoping there is someone who knows of a shop in the Detroit area who will do this kind of work. I'd go to the dealer, but frankly, I haven't had much luck with crews at some of the dealers in the past. The diesel guys are all retiring..

Anybody have a lead for me? I'll do the work myself if I have to, but I'd be more inclined to do so if it was summer..
