MW-pump problems w/ OM617A - no power

Hi all! Wanted to post this on STD forum first but my registeration was never accepted... so here I am. I've got a 1980 W460 with the N/A OM617 engine replaced with a turbo-617 from a station wagon (with original turbo MW-injection pump). The idea is not to get crazy power out of this beast but to have a reliable daily driver with a little bit more oomph. So the goal is max 150hp, because I'd like to keep the truck as "economical" as possible. This is what I've done so far: When I bought the turbo engine, it still had the original turbo in place. It was replaced with a turbo from 603. Also smallish intercooler was installed. Engine's history is unknown, but without any tweaks from myself, I took it to a test bench and the result was 110hp (engine power). Then, I tried to screw IN the FULL LOAD screw (http://i.imgur.com/WEVhzrU.jpg) at the back of the pump as much as I could. It didn't affect the idle, which I was expecting. Felt like the truck was ever so slightly more powerful. I even think the turbo gauge climbed a bit quicker to 0,8bar (where the wastegate was adjusted). After the load adjustement, I went to a different test bech and the result was 101hp. ![]() Anyway, we had a thought, maybe we screwed the FULL LOAD screw the wrong way, so we opened it as much as we could but so that we were still able to close the back cover. Not much changed... no idle change, no more or less power. How can it be that screwing the load screw from one end to the other doesn't make any difference?? I've never been able to get any black smoker either.. Now I've planned to send the M-pump and injectors from my N/A engine to get adjusted. I would have 6mm elements from 606 pump at hand for free. Is there a point getting 7mm elements if I'm not trying to get the max out of this thing? I've heard 7mm elements would give better fuel economy? Last edited by iikoogee; 02-21-2019 at 01:47 PM. |
