W210 stuck on the side of the road

Yesterday drove the 1996 E300 diesel 350 miles with no problem. Then it stated to loose power and eventually died. Replaced the fuel filter. Air filter. One can of Seafoam in the fuel take. And it started and ran for a couple of miles and sputtered and died. Got it to start and it made it to a gas station where I topped off the tank and it drove another mile and died again.
One hour later it started a drove 100 yards and died.
Got hotel room and now will try again.
This problem happened to my wife a couple of weeks ago. Car died after a trip out of town 100 yards from home. I replaced the duel filter and it ran fine. The pre filter had a little stuff in the bottom that I blew out but it was very little like 4 mm.
K40 has been suggested, what do you think?
Thank you in advance for helping

On a W210, the first thing I would look for is air leaking into the fuel lines.

Quickest, easiest, temporary fix would be to install a low pressure, free flow, electric fuel pump on the fuel source line where it comes out of the hard line at the firewall. This should get you home. Then you can find and fix the problem.

Great idea. I have done this in the past and have the pump at home.

It looks like it is the fuel return line from the back of the pump with the banjo bolt part number 017 997-22-48 and along with that is 2 crush washers 007-603-01-21-02

Is it a low or high pressure pump ?
I do not remember.
The one I had in the past was a black plastic pump with red writing

While you are in there go ahead and replace all the clear plastic hoses, the primary screen and its o-ring.

Low pressure, about 3 to 5 psi.

When you get home, order all of the hard plastic fuel lines and o-ring for the pre-filter and just replace them all.

It's definitely air ingress.

Also CHECK the shut off valve, I replaced every fuel system o ring just to realize that shut of valve was leaking too.

My car would die randomly at idle and be very difficult to start if it sat overnight. The shut off valve was my problem.

Just starting to get the rings replace now.

The car runs soo good with the pump that I have put off the repair.

It would be nice if there was a kit that replaces all of the rubber with Viton

Get off your wallet Jeff, you need Dieselmeken 8mm pump and large turbo...
