Dieselpumpuk Injection Pump

We installed Luke's 7.75mm pump to OM617 and timed it according to the punch mark on the flywheel as instructed. Car cannot start without mechanical priming and will not idle. This is a well respected professional shop and we are not getting any solid further direction from Dieselpumpuk.
Has anyone had experience installing these?

Are you sure you're timed on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke?

Funny you mention that, which is what happened.
Runs strong, but way, way too rich. Back it down and it will not start.
Anyone have experience?

What exactly did you "turn down"? Hopefully not the governor adjustments internally. These massive pumps should have an external ALDA of some sort which you can adjust if necessary. You are running an upgraded huge turbo (hopefully with an intercooler) to supply enough air for that pump right? Black smoke means you need more air.

No nothing internally. Just the external adjustments as per supplied videos and linked videos. Pump is supposed to be runnable as provided and expand with larger turbo. Overly lack smoke, elevated EGT. Returned to OEM pump.

I don't see how any 7.75mm pump tuned in any capacity would EVER work with the stock turbo. It was barely adequate for the stock pump.

Another example of Dieselpumpuk's well known poor customer support quality.

Am reaching out to anyone who has experience installing Dieselpumpuk pump.
T summarize: Eventually got pump installed at 22-24 degrees and punchmark lined up. Ran great but smoked horribly. Adjusted per dieselpumpuk instruction sheet. No start/fuel delivery. Dieselpumpuk is insistent that we are not following the instructions correctly.

If Diesel300's theory is correct, any proven recommendations are appreciated.

Dieselpumpuk is known for their poor support if you don't treat him like he is a god, much like "uncle Kent" at Mercedes$ource.

Check your chain timing. Verify crank:cam are in phase. Make sure supply and return hoses are connected in the correct order to the tank. Get rid of the stock turbo, its a horribly inefficient piece even for that time period. Check the throttle stop screw adjustment, if its adjusted too far in (more throttle range) it will overpower the ALDA/governor, causing overfueling no matter the governor settings. Make sure the rack limiter is installed, it MUST be installed to prevent over fueling at full throttle, there is no external way to limit fueling like on the M pump with its stop lever "ALDA".

Thank you CanadasHistory. This is an M pump. I am thinking of installing an HE221 Holset, then give it another attempt installing pump.

ClassicDieselTech,
Prior to this the valves were adjusted by a retired MB technician and ran fantastic.
as it was.

The shop and I were following the limited guidance of Luke. His rebut was that my shop "did not know what they are doing"

Other communications state that this pump should not be installed without larger turbo and intercooler/meth injection to properly perform.

At this point i can no longer advance.
