Fitting an innercooler into a 87 300td

I just recently purchased my second 1987 300td for a parts car/ project car.

Last week I was lucky enough to find a OM603.971 manifold and turbo for my project car and in the process of fitting it, I removed the firewall, air cleaner, & air intake sensor. As I was figuring the dimensions of the connecting tube between the turbo and the intake "over arm", I got the idea of fitting an inner cooler in front of the right front wheel similar to how the oil cooler is mounted on the left hand side of the car.

Granted I'll probably need to fit an aftermarket air cleaner, but my plan was to fit the car with an air intake snorkel anyway. I intend to make my wagon into a rally/ camper/ "expedition" vehicle.

Any advice, recommendations, or warnings will be greatly appreciated!
