Northern CA Diesel Drive

After the success of the Sacramento Meet on 10.04.06, a few of us have been talking about planning another meet in hopes that we can make small g2g's if not large, occur on somewhat of a regular basis. We all had a great time, right!?!

Following is one proposal. If you have any ideas feel free to contribute! Nothing is set in stone and it would be good to be flexible on dates due to winter weather patterns and travel distances. We are looking at organizing a drive for a weekend some time in January, which will allow time for the holidays to pass so that hopefully more people than less will be able to attend.

If you have any ideas, have a favorite drive you like to do in the Bay Area, restaurants, etc... post here and lets get the ball rolling.

As of today, Zack (Boardmonger), Nick (SirNik84), and myself are on board for this. JimB? Jeremey? Prez808?... there are lots of us out there so chime in!

Route Proposal 1. Point Reyes Natl. Seashore/Golden Gate
Map of general area: http://www.co.marin.ca.us/depts/IS/Main/CountyMap.jpg

Leg 1.

Meet at Marin County Civic Center, located on the eastern side of Highway 101 on San Pedro Road overlooking the highway.. you cant miss it! http://www.greatbuildings.com/buildings/Marin_Civic_Center.html
Head west on Sir Francis Drake blvd.
Right on Nicasio Valley Road.
Left on Point Reyes st. Road/D Street
Left on Highway 1, head south through the town of Pt. Reyes Station.
Right onto Sir Francis Drake blvd. heading northwest through the town of Inverness out to the Point Reyes Natl. Seashore.
Lets go to the lighthouse!
http://www.ptreyeslight.com/lthouse.html

Leg 2.
Head back through inverness on Sr Francis Drake
Right onto highway 1 headed south
Stop off in Stinson Beach for a bite at the Parkside Cafe & Snack Bar. Ample parking will be on the right hand side as we enter Stinson Beach on highway 1 at the Stinson Beach/Golden Gate park&beach. The cafe is a very short walk from there.

Leg 3.

Highway 1 leads out of Stinson Beach, up and over the coastal range back to highway 101.
Take 101 south towards the Golden Gate Bridge/G.G. National recreation area... perhaps for photo ops etc... theres a spot under the n. side of the bridge with views of the city etc...

Sounds good, might even drag the wife along, maybe driving her new Benz (if we have one by that time). January is wide open at the moment (that will change!). The route you've laid out is something that can be done rain or shine.

I'll repeat what I said from the other thread:

Sounds like a great meet idea. The Marin County Civic Center is less than 30 minutes from me!

Another good place to meet in the Bay Area is Heather Farms in Walnut Creek. The NorCal members of the 4th generation Honda Accord owner's forum that I belong to almost always meet there because it's central to everyone. People come from as far away as Sac, Santa Cruz, Modesto, Stockon. There's TONS of free parking everywhere and it's close to some great backroads that I take all the time. There are also plenty of places to eat in the surrounding areas.

I love driving the santa cruz mountains but that is pretty far for some members further inland. I like the Walnut Creek idea and Livermore might work as well. There are tons of resturants and again lots of fun roads. January is open for me but if there is (lots of) fresh snow in the Sierra's I would have to miss this, powder rules.

North Bay sounds nice, again only about 2 hours away for me and everyone else. After that we will have to meet down here in the South Bay to even out everyone's driving. We could throw dates out but rain again is going to be the main issue.

Sounds like we need to start spitting out dates and see which one works for everyone. I tnink that December is outta the question with all the family comitments that time of year so... the 13th of January would be a good weekend, because its a 3 day weekend, but that might cause problems if people have trips planned. so the hows the 20th?
