Question FastLane question on engine number

I thought I was getting to know my way around my 1995 E320 wagon. Until I wanted to order a polyrib belt for it. There are three engine numbers listed. And none of them looks like anything on the plate riveted above the radiator. These are the engine numbers listed on Phil's site

-12-072236
12-102821-
12-072237-12-108820

Where on my engine might I find a number like that?

Thanks for your help!

Tim Benner

This is the last six digits of your full engine code.

This is the last six digits of your full engine code = VIN# needed to extract the full engine code.

Dash before = all engine# before 072236

-12-072236

Dash after = all engine# after# 102821

12-102821-

This configuration is From engine# 072237 through engine# 108820

12-072237-12-108820

If anyone is confused by this, PLEASE call Phil.

Thanks. I'm following you so far. Now the question is how do you extract the engine code from the VIN?

For instance, using this fictitious VIN
WDBEA92E7SF123456
How would one get the engine code?

It would probably be easier to just call the order in with VIN in hand but often it is after hours by the time I know what I want to order.

Thanks again,

Tim Benner

Look at the attached FastLane snapshot, generally it is correct, unless there where many engines/changes in a model.

You need EPC or WIS to access correct data.

Legal EPC Software

E-mail your VIN# to Phil or Roy, we will send back your engine code ASAP.
