Replacing engine air filter on Mercedes R 320 Cdi

Tools needed – screwdriver, torx bit set, torx socket set, metric socket set, ratchets, extension, needle nose pliers, thread lock, replacement filters and lots of patience.
Time – 2+ hours (if you are with skills!!)

Make sure the engine is cold. You will be touching the engine a lot and will prevent nasty burns. Open hood. Remove rubber line from the edge of cross plate simply by pulling it out. Remove cross plate on top of the engine by removing four bolts, two on each side. Remove one torx bolt in middle and rubber spacer. When replacing bolts at the end of the job, use blue thread lock to prevent the loosing the bolts.
Remove the plastic engine cover by pulling up and forward. It is hold only by 3 studs.
Loose one screw on left site near cabin filter inlet which holds the plastic cover under the wipers. Remove the triangle plastic cover on the opposite site by unclipping. This will help during the removing the filter compartments. The engine has 2 filters, one on each side.
RIGHT SIDE
Unplug the sensor.
Loose cable above the filter compartment. Use needle nose pliers; depress on the pins and pull. There are 3 of them.
Loose the air pipe at the front of the engine and pull the middle section out. Loose and remove steal pipe clip.
Loose 2 torx bolts. One at the back is longer and holds by the plastic ring. Pull whole filter block starting up and then rotating slightly toward you from back, and remove it whole. There are 2 pins on the bottom; you will feel tension at the beginning. Be very careful and patience. Once the compartment is removed, loose 4 bolts, separate and replace the filter.
Putt everything together by reversing process.
Make sure that you insert 2 pins in the correct spot!!!
LEFT SIDE
Loose the air pipes, there is no sensor, go directly to the bolts. Removing oil reservoir cup and rubber gasket will ease process of removing compartment. Rest of the process is the same as on the right.
Reassemble everything by reverse process.
Good luck
