Complaint filed with nhsta over darkened driver's side view mirror
This is regarding my 1999 clk320. The outside drivers' mirror has turned very dark, which makes it very hard to see anything in it. I filed a complaint today. Others with the same problem, which I understand in not uncommon, should consider also filing. The complaint can be completed online and takes only a few minutes to complete.

Is there some expectation that said mirror will last for the life of the vehicle? Granted, it's a safety issue, but probably could be considered a replaceable part.

...especially after 10-11 years...

maybe, but as a non-moving part essential to safety I don't think it should fail. Same as the wiring harness insulation degradation problem in the "93 -"95 models, imo.

However, I don't believe M/B or NHTSA are going to agree with me. The wiring harness degradation problem went nowhere, AFAIK. |
